20-21 Devotion (08-25) The Vessel’s use

Good morning Family, let us lift our hands this morning in praise. Let us be receptive to fill our vessels with the things of God. Todays reading comes to us from 2 Timothy: 20-21. “ But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.”

In our homes we have different containers for various purposes. However, we do not mix the uses. The containers that are for drinking water always remain and are set apart for dinking water. The garbage container will always be used for trash. No matter how many times we wash the garbage bin, we do not store drinking water in it.

We are considered vessels to be used by God, however most of us do not live up the calling of God on our lives. We either pour or allow others to place toxic or unpure substances in our vessels then wonder why God has not elevated us in what He has us doing on earth. Our vessels are filled and defiled by sinful things. We allow hatred, lust unforgiveness, idolatry and impure thoughts to name a few to be poured and stored within us. Listen family, it is not only the big things that defile us but the smaller things such as the thought that goes through our mind when our manager asks us to work overtime on a Friday evening or the programs, we decide to entertain ourselves with.

Unlike the containers in our homes, the Lord does not use or keep us in same use or containers once we cleanse ourselves from the dishonourable things. Even though we are required to cleanse ourselves, it is actually God who will work in us once we ask Him. Kindly recall 1 John 1:9 : “ If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”(NKJV)

Too many of us are comfortable living as we are in cracked old clay vessels. We are so much in the world that we find it difficult to separate ourselves, cleanse our vessel and have holiness and righteous things poured into us. If what is uncleaned is constantly being poured into us, what will we pour into others. If you have glass of drinking water and just a drop mud falls into it, is it still considered pure water? Is this water fit to share with others. We must guard and protect what and who we allow to pour into us.

We all need to search our hearts and see where we have fallen short of the honourable purposes that our vessels were designed for.

Come, join me in prayer. Heavenly Father, we are thankful that You can cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Lord, we present our lives as vessels for You to cleanse and use according to your will. Lord, help us to walk away from those things of the world that should not be pour into us in Jesus’ mighty name we pray Amen.

Amen, we should at ALL times guard and protect what and who we allow to pour into our life. Well said.
