Judges 7 Devotion: Remove the Excess

Good morning Family, this morning we will be looking at the chapter of Judges 7 and in more detail verses 1-8. Here Gideon was instructed by The Lord to reduce the size of his army.
One might think that the more resources you have at your disposal the better the outcome. This might be true when only human effort is involved. However, when God is involved, only His word is needed. With God all things are possible. Now let us apply this to our lives. Just as with Gideon, God will give us a task but will require us the shed some of the people traveling with us.
Please notice that the people you are leaving behind are not necessarily unbelievers. These could even be relatives or friends ,they could be fellow disciples who have doubts about your calling or fear because of the enormity of the task. In the story of Gideon, their stance in terms of kneeling and lapping was used to sift them out as the type of soldier required. You could extrapolate from this analogy that those who are going to fight with you must know how to kneel and pray, how to reach out to God in times of distress, how to position themselves to be fed by the living water.
Once you decide to answer the call of God, know that the battle at times will not have everyone or anyone fighting for you. You must rely on God so he can get all the glory.
If we really believe the principle, not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the LORD of hosts (Zechariah 4:6), then our smallness does not matter. If we really believe the principle, some trust in chariots, and some in horses; but we will remember the name of the LORD our God (Psalm 20:7), then smallness does not matter. ( www.enduringword.com)
Believer, remember you don’t need a large army to defeat the enemy as you serve a great God. Your circle does not have to be large, remember where two or three are gathered in His name, I am there in the midst of them ( Matthew 18:20).
Come, join me in prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you that we don’t need any resource but our faith in You for You to fight for us. We thank You for showing us that once You are in the battle, victory is guaranteed. In Jesus’ name we pray Amen.

Amen
