Matthew 5 :15-16 Devotion (08-25) The Lighthouse
Good morning Family, let us lift our hands this morning in praise and thank God that He is merciful and faithful towards us. Today’s devotion comes to us from Matthew 5 :15-16, which reads: Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
A lighthouse is a tower or physical structure that emits a powerful light, serving as a navigational aid for ships and aircraft, warning them of dangers like rocks and coastlines, and guiding them to safety*. However, if a lighthouse fails to perform or is built incorrectly it can have devastating consequences. This is evident in Cape St. George lighthouse which once stood 1.9 miles south of Jervis Bay in Australia**. The short version of this story is that the lighthouse was built in the wrong location which from the period of 1864 to 1893, resulted in twenty-three shipwrecks.
Family, let us look into our own lives. Who is it that we are supposed to shining the light of God to through our lives. The scripture says let your light shine, but some of us have planted ourselves in places that the Lord has not commissioned. We have affixed ourselves to institutions and people for which we should not be. As a result, those who are drawn to us end up being damaged and hurt. People that should be saved by watching the light from our lives are being deceived and led astray.
Then there are those of us whose light have gone dim. We have not taken care of our lighthouse. We are not reading the word of God consistently or praying that our heart remains pure. The storms of life have blown and the tower while standing has been battered and in need of cleaning and repair.
Believers, there a people out there that we can impact positively but we need to shine brightly to attract as many people as possible to Christ through our lives. That family member who is unsaved that we interact with often. That coworker that looks up to you for guidance or the friend that you don’t introduce to Christ. Our lighthouse should be shining so bright that we need not utter words as how we live speaks volume of Christ within us.
This morning, let us begin to be the light that we are called to be.
Come, join me in prayer. Heavenly Father, we ask forgiveness for those in the past we have derailed or led astray by not being the light .We are thankful that you have placed people in our lives which we should guide to you, Lord. Grant us the tools to guide them safely to Christ in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Amen
