Matthew 7: 13-14 Devotion (09-25) One of the few

Good morning Family, this is the day that the Lord has made and let us give thanks that we have another opportunity to be counted among the few. For today’s devotion let us turn our bibles to Matthew 7: 13-14 which reads: “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”
Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines the word few when used as a noun as a small number of units or individuals. Now in relation to our text this should be alarming for us. It would mean that based on the billions in the human population that only a small amount will enter Heaven. We should note that the narrow gate itself is not a destination but a journey. It means crucifying flesh, hardship, rejecting the sinful way of life and living by faith. By the very nature of how difficult it is, many will not walk it because we will rather the pleasures and comfort of this life, which is human nature to gravitate to that which is easier. Even many of Jesus’ disciples turned away and did not walk with Him (John 6:66).
Believers, let us take this with a seriousness as Jesus emphasized that we should enter through the narrow gate. Then further went on to say in Matthew 24:37-38,“But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark.” Why go back to the Old Testament, one might ask? Because Jesus referenced it. The similarity is that out of the present population on earth at the time of Noah only a few were saved. Only eight people entered the ark.
If you need more convincing, remember the story of Lot and how Abraham pleaded with God in Genesis 18:16-33, not to destroy the cities of Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboim. Again, out of these four cities, how many were saved; a few.
Family, the questions that now remain are: Have you entered through the narrow gate, are you living by faith or feelings. Does the world recognise you as one of their own or are you set apart, separated and distinctly walking upright? If you are uncertain of where you stand, now is the appointed hour to get it right, to accept Christ, to enter the narrow gate. If the sun should rise tomorrow and you fail to rise with it, as death visited you earlier, would you be counted as one of the few, or will you be one of those wailing and gnashing their teeth (Matthew 13:42).
Look into yourself, are you confident you are one of the few. If only a few will find this gate, let yourself be one of the few. Let your family and friends be counted among the few.
Come, join hands with me family and let us pray. Heavenly and most righteous Father, we come before acknowledging that You are Lord of all creation. Father forgive us of our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lord, we seek to enter through the narrow gate and forsake the broad road and all its sinful desires which will damn our souls for eternity. Lord, help us to live the life of the narrow gate and be counted as one of the few that spend eternity with You, in Jesus’ precious name we pray, Amen.

Lord help me each day to stay on the narrow road. Amen and Amen
