Joshua 1:8 Devotion (07-25) Meditate

Good morning Family, let us give praise to our Lord, and make our ears sensitive to His leading. Today's devotion comes to us from Joshua 1:8 which reads, “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”
The Hebrew word translated as meditate is hagah, which mean to muse over, constant muttering in prayer under one’s breath. This can even be seen as speaking Gods word back to Him. But how often as believers do we do this? If we mutter something under our breath, often times it is not something good and we don’t want others to hear. We are usually in a disgruntled state.
Our daily thoughts are filled with whatever entertainment is before us, the work challenges, family and financial issues. We will even forget what we read in this devotion within half an hour as our minds are captivated by the next email, texts, WhatsApp and Tic Tok. In Romans 12 verse two we are called to renew our minds daily. Part of renewing our mind is by reading the word and by meditating on the word.
To show how important this function is, it is referred to several times in the Bible here are a few:
· Psalm 119:15 I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways.
· Psalm 119: 78 Let the proud be ashamed; for they dealt perversely with me without a cause: but I will meditate in thy precepts.
· Psalm 119: 48 My hands also will I lift up unto thy commandments, which I have loved; and I will meditate in thy statutes.
Believers there is a lot for us to gain from meditating on God's word:
· We see how these precepts can be applied to our lives
· It reveals the character, nature and goodness of God
· It helps to renew our minds and positions us to hear more clearly His voice.
Family, let us make an effort to schedule time daily to meditate on Gods words. Start with choosing a verse that has meaning to you and revisit it several times a day. You can set reminders in your phone, if you need to. Do not be afraid or ashamed, just continue to intentionally draw closer to God and He will come closer to you.
Come, join me in prayer. Dear Heavenly Father, we come humbly before you acknowledging that we have fallen short of meditating on Your word and we seek forgiveness. Lord, help us to build the mental fortitude to seek You, to press deeper into your word and a more intimate relationship with You . In Jesus’ might name we pray, Amen.

Amen
