Gather Your Manna

Exodus 16 Devotion: Gather Your Manna

Good morning Family, let us continue to give thanks during this period of Lent. Today’s devotion focuses on Exodus 16 and verses 4 and 5 which states: Then the Lord said to Moses, “I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test them and see whether they will follow my instructions.  On the sixth day they are to prepare what they bring in, and that is to be twice as much as they gather on the other days.

Please note that they were told to gather daily except on the sixth day. If you read further to verse 21 you will notice that if not gathered early, the hot sun will melt it away. Believers, how often do we eat each day, sometimes for some of us more than two times. Most of us cannot go a week without food, yet we don’t feed on spiritual food daily. We wonder why we cannot overcome certain issues or cast down certain strongholds in our lives. We are spiritually anaemic and malnourished.

The word of God is here for us to nurture daily but we opt for a few lines from a pastor on Sunday. Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? (Matthew 6:26). We must be intentional about our walk with Jesus. The Lord feeds the birds, but He does not drop the food at their nest. The Lord fed the Israelites, but they had to get up and gather the manna.

We must get up and gather what The Lord has for us individually each day from His word. Intentional means despite how we feel, it means despite our circumstances, it means we do not skip a spiritual meal. It means we are purposefully strengthening our relationship with God. During the season of Lent, we would have sacrificed some things but let us pick up the habit of gathering our manna daily.

Come, join me in prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, we come before you this morning with hands lifted high praising You for your mercy. Father, forgive us for not gathering our spiritual manna and feeding from the world. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
