Leviticus 27:30 Devotion (05-25) Can We Tithe Time?
Good Morning Family, let us do according to Malachi 3:10 and Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. Today's devotional topic is “Can we Tithe Time?” and the scripture reading is taken from Leviticus 27:30 which reads, “Every tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the trees, is the Lord’s; it is holy to the Lord (English Standard Version)
The definition of a tithe is a tenth of the produce of the earth consecrated and set apart for special purposes. The dedication of a tenth to God was recognized as a duty before the time of Moses *. However, let us examine the time as an instrument we could tithe. How do you feel you would measure up? Many of us do not have the first crop or animals to bring but we have money and time. Let us also note that nowhere in the New Testament are we commanded to tithe but to give generously.
Do we give to the Lord generously our time and are we satisfied with the time we give Him? If everyday belongs to the Lord, do we give Him a tenth of 24 hours which is 144 minutes or 2.4 hours. On Sabbath or Sunday service many people begin to fidget if the service goes beyond 2 hours and yet for many this is the only time they have given God all week.
We are all guilty of this at some point in time. The aim is not to make one feel guilty but to bring awareness so that it can be addressed. We cannot ignore God during the week and then deny ourselves of His presence on Sunday or Sabbath. We know the hectic pace of our modern lives, but we also know that it is the same God of Moses who is a jealous God and wants no other God to be placed before Him.
God will not be placed aside like a tool, only to be called upon in certain circumstances. Remember believers, that mercy always precedes judgement and whatever you have in your life which causes you not to spend adequate time with The Lord, He can remove.
Let us examine our respective lives, ask for forgiveness and see where improvements can be made. We often act as if God is an add-on feature in our lives, someone we try to accommodate in our schedule. This is a very serious posture for a believer to adopt.
While we will not be measuring our time with the Lord to the nearest minute, let us begin to reorganize our lives for our Saviour and King so that more time can be spent in His presence.
Come, join me in prayer. Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You for being a merciful God and we ask forgiveness of our treatment of the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross so that we can come before You in prayer. Lord, continue to shine Your light in our lives, so that others though us will be saved, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
