Bloom where planted

Genesis 41 Devotion: Joseph Interprets Pharaoh’s Dream ( Bloom where planted)

Based on the length of time that the butler had left Joseph he was forgotten again as two full years had passed. One should always be keen to acknowledge that our timing is not God’s timing and we nor our circumstances does not have to fit within His calendar of events.

When Joseph was asked in verses 15-16, if he could interpret the dream, he immediately answered by saying God can tell you what it means and set your mind at ease. Joseph remained humble.  Joseph was given a golden opportunity by Pharaoh to glorify himself, but he refused and sought only to glorify God.

The Lord works in mysterious ways (read Isaiah 55:8-9). Notice how Joseph in one chess move is taken from being a prisoner to Prime Minister. (Please remember that from the “pit to palace” was 13 years). One thing that we as believers often ignore is to grow and bloom where you have been planted.

Many times, we say all things work for good (Romans 8:28) but as soon as challenges or hardship arises, we fight to get out. We pray that God removes this from us, not how He can move us through this challenging time. As such Christ is not seen in us as we spend so much time complaining instead of praying. Christ cannot be glorified in our struggles, as such we often spend more time in the “fires of life” than The Lord intended. (examples: the job that is going nowhere, the financial problem that mounts with each pay check, the illness that has death as its companion, the relationship that barrelling towards a cliff). Believers, call upon God, remember He is our Deliverer.

Come, join me in prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, we come before you this morning seeking forgiveness for our complaining and discontent with our situation. Lord, we repent and ask that You give us hearts ready to do Your will, so that Christ will be glorified through us. In Jesus’ name , Amen.
