Good morning, Family. Let us make a joyful noise unto Jehovah Jireh, the Lord who will who provide for all our needs. Today’s devotion comes to us from the fourth chapter in the book of Kings and tell of two different accounts of how God provided and fulfilled the needs / demands when supply was low. Kindly read 2 Kings 4:1-7 and 2 Kings 4:38-43. The first story speaks about a widow, her inability to pay her creditors and being threatened to take her two sons as slaves. The second passage outlines the challenges and scarcity of food during famine. How a gift of food while appreciated was not enough to meet the needs of a hundred people until God was included.

Before we continue any further let us define the term economics, so it is better understood in the context of this devotion. The simple definition of economics is the social science that studies the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services, and how individuals, businesses, and governments make choices in the face of scarcity (managing supply and demand).

The widow did not have enough money to pay her creditors. Neither did she have anything of substance, not even food. All she had was a flask of oil. The flask of oil was all she needed because God can move with a little. Remember this is the same God that spoke the entire universe into existence. Please note that nothing would happen if she did not exercise faith and was obedient to Elisha. As much empty vessels as she could gather, she could fill. This can be same for us. As many people that we can pour into with respect righteous living and kingdom building, the Lord will provide the “oil”. The sale of the oil was not just enough for her immediate needs but enough for her and her sons to live on.

The second passage speaks to feeding 100 men on twenty loaves of barley bread and some heads of new grain. This clearly was not enough to feed these men. However, once the man of God commanded them it to eat, it was more than enough, and they even had leftovers. There is a phrase, “a little is much when God is in it”.  We are more all familiar with the story of Jesus feeding the multitudes (Matthew 14:13-21). What these Old Testament stories tell us is that even before the birth of Jesus, God was satisfying the economics needs of the faithful. He is the same God of yesterday, today and eternity, which means that whatever little you have, you can give it to Him. He is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask. However, we must exercise faith, be obedient and be fully submitted to His will.

What in your life is in economic turmoil today or what aspect of your life is lacking? Now believers, you can lack more than just physical substances. You might be experiencing a spiritual drought or a building biblical apathy. You need to place is all before the Lord and let Him who is able and the only one who is able to implement the “Biblical Economics” to the situations of your life.

Come, join me in prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You that you are our great provider. Lord, forgive us of any doubt we have had in the past or having now with your ability to supply all our needs. Lord, help us to trust You more and give You the little that we have. Lord, thank you for meeting our needs and when you have blessed us, help us to hold them loosely, that if You should seek to reallocate it, will not be a stumbling block for us. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
