2 Samuel 11: Beholding Bathseba
Good morning family.Let's ask the lord to purify our hearts and mind. Today's devotion comes to us from 2 Samuel chapter 11. This is the well known story of David and Bathsheba. The summary of the story is that King David committed adultery with one of his soldier, Uriah's wife Bathseba. He tried to cover up his actions when he found out that Bathseba was pregnant and eventually had Uriah killed.
Usually when we think about this story. We think about adultery and murder. But I want us to look beyond that.I want us to look at the Bathseba that we might be holding on in our lives. David did not need another wife. So what we see here was greed and lust. What has captivated you in your life to do things that are out of character, morally wrong and might even be criminal.
The Bible says we should not covet our neighbours spouses or their things, but there might be positions in companies, churches and organizations that we lust after. You so badly desire these posts that you begin to sow seeds of discord which the Lord says is an abomination (Proverbs 6:16-19).
Listen believers, you might not go as far as to commit murder, but in the eyes of The Lord you have sinned. The thing which comes to mind and those who have encouraged you to go after it in the wrong manner, you should distance and separate from. Those who are saying " it your your time now", "you have worked hard", " you deserve it and to be happy" are no different than the serpent that confronted Eve in the garden.
Being ambitious is a good thing, once you act within virtues of the Bible. Let us examine another scenario. The lust and greed of our eyes cause us to click and buy one more item we do not need and may never use more than once. But we tell ourselves we must have it to satisfy our desires. We see nothing wrong, and justify it by saying "it is our money and we worked hard for it".
Believers, we are not immune from such desires and will fall into sin if we are not careful. Galatians 5:16 states, Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
Come, join me in prayer. Dear Heavenly Father, forgive us of our sins. Search our hearts and see if there is anything lustful or greedy desire that needs to be uprooted and cast out , in Jesus'name Amen.

Amen
