Daniel 6 :10-15 Devotion (05-25) The King’s Time
Good morning Family. Let us bend our knees and bow in prayer to our Lord and King. The topic of todays devotion is “The Kings Time” and the scripture reading is taken from Daniel 6: 10-15. This is the well-known story about Daniel praying three times per day, disobeying the royal statue that whoever petitions any god or man for thirty days, except king Darius shall be cast into the lion’s den.
How many of us today facing this new law would conform and compromise for 30 days. We would choose life and even say that God would understand given that we are facing certain death. We might even decide not to pray until the 30 days have passed. A law like that might have little if any effect in today’s society as Christians have increasingly neglected the act of prayer from their daily lives. Prayer is our direct line and connection to God and not communing results in a lack of spiritual growth and intimacy. It is not surprising that when the challenges of life come that so many believers crumble like those without hope.
Daniel did not change his schedule, frequency or place of prayer because of the new law. Daniel showed obedience to the Lord, dedication and faith that God will deliver him in some way. Daniel had a time / appointment with the Lord which he was devoted to and kept daily. How many of us keep our regular prayer time or even remember to pray and how do we feel when we move through a day without prayer?
For some of us, we never miss when our favourite news broadcast is on, the TV show or podcast that airs at a specific time, yet we are unable to keep a time when we seek the presence of God. There are men and women of God who schedule their day around the time they spend in prayer with God and for others we shuffle God around to fit if possible, our packed day. We have our priorities wrong in this regard. If the CEO of our company requested a standing meeting everyday at 9am for an hour it would be scheduled. Yet, for the Lord or Lords, King of Kings, the Creator and Our Heavenly Father, not even five minutes can be found.
Believers, let us make time for The King. Let us intentionally schedule our time with the Lord and not treat Him as a placeholder when there is nothing else we have going on. Let us cultivate the discipline to seek God daily and consistently. Let us influence our environment and not let the environment decide how we interact and commune with our Lord. The same God that delivered Daniel in the Lion's den will provide a way for you once you decide to place Him and His time as priority in your life.
Come join me in prayer. Dear Heavenly Father we give thanks for the ability to come to You directly in prayer. Lord, help us to structure our days and lives in a way where You and time spent with You is given priority. Lord, help us to stand and keep our appointments with you in spite of whatever is happening in our respective environment, in Jesus’ name Amen.
